NIST Approves G.hn Technologies For Use In Smart Grid Applications | in News Departments > FYI | by Renew Grid on Monday 28 September 2009 | HomeGrid Forum, a nonprofit trade group, says the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has approved G.hn wired home networking technology for use in smart grid applications.
HomeGrid Forum says G.hn, the wired networking standard developed by the United Nations' International Telecommunication Union, will enable a range of home energy management applications to reach the market. Through G.hn, devices such as smart meters, heating and air conditioning systems, electrical appliances and lightning systems can establish secure communication channels with other products.
"The G.hn standard includes significant provisions for power management, including sleep modes that will enable devices based on G.hn technology to meet power efficiency standards," comments Matt Theall, president of HomeGrid Forum.
