Parker Hannifin Completes Grid-Scale Energy Storage System | in News Departments > Projects & Contracts | by Renew Grid on Tuesday 12 January 2010 | Parker Hannifin Corp. says its SSD Drives division has completed the installation of its first large-scale inverter system designed to control the flow of electricity between the power grid and banks of storage batteries.
The 12 MW energy storage system is located at a substation in the Atacama Desert in Chile, which is managed by a subsidiary of AES Corp. The installation combines Parker Hannifin AC890PX inverters and a lithium-ion battery system from A123 Systems. The technology helps the local system operator manage fluctuations in demand for electricity and regulate frequency.
Parker Hannifin says its AC890PX inverters have been used in several smaller installations in the U.S.
