The programs include home energy audits, appliance turn-ins, HVAC incentives, rebates for energy-efficient products, a direct load control initiative and online home energy analysis tools. The plans also include programs for commercial, industrial, government and nonprofit customers to increase energy efficiency and conservation efforts.
"Over the next few months, we will introduce a number of new programs to help our Pennsylvania electric utility customers save energy and money," says Doug Elliott, FirstEnergy president of Pennsylvania operations. "They will include incentives for making efficiency improvements in homes and businesses, and tools to help customers understand how to make better energy decisions."
The utilities, which are all subsidiaries of FirstEnergy Corp., say these programs have the potential to create nearly $1 billion in energy savings over the life of the initiatives. The Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission has approved the initiatives.
