Smart Grid Information Clearinghouse Launches Beta Site | in News Departments > FYI | by Renew Grid on Wednesday 07 July 2010 | The Smart Grid Information Clearinghouse (SGIC) - an initiative spearheaded by Virginia Tech, IEEE PES and EnerNex Corp., and funded by the U.S. Department of Energy - has launched a beta version of its website.
The SGIC says the purpose of the site is to serve as an "essential gateway that connects the smart grid community to the relevant sources of information that are currently scattered and distributed on the worldwide web." The portal, which is scheduled for a full launch this fall, contains information related to smart grid demonstration projects, standards, legislation, regulations, best practices and more.
"The team at Virginia Tech and IEEE has been incredibly receptive to suggestions and has literally worked night and day to launch this ambitious and important project," says Katherine Hamilton, president of the GridWise Alliance and a member of the SGIC's advisory board. "The site starts with basic information and gradually gets more technical as you work through it. We think this will serve as a good starting point for everyday consumers, policymakers or university researchers."
The GridWise Alliance says the SGIC will be open to comments, on the site's "Forum" section, through the summer.
