Two recently completed projects are providing renewable electricity to Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E).
San Diego-based Sempra U.S. Gas & Power has announced the completion of Mesquite Solar 1, the first 150 MW phase of the company's Mesquite Solar complex in Arlington, Ariz., about 40 miles west of Phoenix. PG&E is buying the project’s output under a 20-year contract. Future phases planned at the solar complex could produce up to 700 MW, making it one of North America's largest solar power installations, according to Sempra.
Separately, EDF Renewable Energy, formerly enXco, has announced that the 102.5 MW Shiloh IV Wind Project, located in Solano County, Calif., is now operational. PG&E will buy the project's electricity under a 25-year power purchase agreement.
"Shiloh IV demonstrates our ongoing commitment to provide PG&E’s customers with sustainable green power today and as California marches forward into a clean energy future,” comments Fong Wan, the utility’s senior vice president of energy procurement. “PG&E delivers some of the cleanest energy in the nation to our customers, more than half of which comes from sources which are carbon free. We look forward to continuing to work with EDF Renewable Energy on vital renewable energy projects that will help push California closer to its 33 percent renewable energy goal.”
